Election 2010: Water Front & Center in the Race for GA Governor

October 21, 2010

File under “Updates, Water Politics”: All the major news coverage of Tuesday’s gubernatorial candidate debate at the studios of WALB TV in Albany made note of the high profile that various water-related issues had over the course of the debate. Resolving the Tri-State Water War, protecting downstream communities, regulating interbasin water transfers, and the question of building dams on the Flint River all came up during the debate. See WALB’s debate video here, and also see these reports from the Albany Herald, the Augusta Chronicle and Insider Advantage.

Meanwhile, as noted here last week, the Georgia Water Coalition has launched a television commercial aimed at educating Georgia voters about important water issues. The commercial calls attention to water waste in metro Atlanta and calls on voters to ask gubernatorial candidates how clean water can be assured for all Georgians. Watch it online here, and read the Georgia Water Coalition’s recent press release on the topic here.
